Our Story

Early in 2020, when Covid-19 hit hard, I was the Managing Director of a dedicated team of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck surgeons, nurses and medical staff who needed proper PPE.

I soon learned that there was a global shortage of adequate, affordable, and effective PPE that would provide sufficient protection for our medical team. My daughter is also a front-line health care worker, and she and her fellow staff members were faced with the same challenge. 

I decided that if I couldn’t find adequate PPE to protect my daughter as well as my co-workers, then I would create it myself. So, at 3:00 am early one morning I woke up and got to work. I designed a new shield that would cover the face and the top of the head. I knew it needed to be lightweight and extremely comfortable. Three days later, I had a working prototype that I brought into the hospital to show the doctors and nurses and to ask for their opinions. Their responses were extremely encouraging, and they wanted their own shields right away! That spurred the start of this company and our focus on developing best-in-class PPE and devices.

The C-Shield is Health Canada approved, with several patent applications on file. Our users tell us that the shield is comfortable for all day use, and it has changed their perception of what wearing personal protective equipment can be like. We’ve now supplied millions of our “Made in Canada” shields to government and educational institutions. We’ve been told they like it because they can now equip their teams with an affordable, comfortable shield that keeps them safe and on the job.

Win-Shield Medical Devices has evolved into a dynamic team of engineers, medical, dental and business experts who work closely with end users to conceive, design and enhance new, innovative, and affordable medical and industrial devices – including the C-Shield. We are hard at work developing several new and innovative devices that we expect will be very well received. We are targeting several new product launches that will start in Q4, 2023.
